Sound has incredible vibration as I am sure you all know. We use sound to
release pent up, blocked energies in the physical, mental, emotional, and
spiritual bodies. These are samples of sounds that we use in our healing work,
as well as samples of a few sounds that we don't use with clients, but have used
on tape for ourselves that have been very healing. These sample sounds are
narrated, the combined sounds below are not. We have a number of crystal bowls
in different sizes, both clear and frosted. A medium size Tibetan bowl and two
Tibetan bells. We don't have the smallest size of Tibetan bell, but it makes a
very unique sound of it's own. Tingshas can vary a lot from pair to pair. We
only have one pair at the moment or we would let you hear a variety. We have
many rattles, most are ones that we have made, and a couple specific healing
rattles that were made for us, that we will share here. We use drums in
everything we do the vibrations are so different than any of the other sounds.
It is a deep connection to the Earth that is felt during drumming and this
connection has healed more than can be put into words. The Freenotes, wind
chimes, bones and tinkerbells are very harmonious and relaxing sounds that we
like to hear ourselves. Down the page are small images with descriptions of
these items.

The drums on this day did not record well in the room we were in! They are
very distorted. We will try to get them rerecorded soon, for now, we recommend
going to the
drum sounds

We recorded these one day in a bedroom of our house because we
wanted a tape to meditate with. They are very simple recordings, and we are not
musicians. Sometimes it takes us 30 seconds or so to get in sync with each
other and get into the energy. Some were recorded Nov of 1994 and some on the
winter Solstice of the same year.

These
are 3 of our crystal bowls. The large one in the back is tuned to the crown
chakra, the smaller frosted one, to the heart chakra, and the small clear one,
to the navel chakra. The largest one on a size scale of 1 - 100, is about a
75. The clear bowls don't come in as many sizes, I think the smaller frosted
bowl in the picture, would be about the size of the largest clear bowl you can
get. In the combined sounds of the crystal bowls, we are using the three bowls
shown, plus a throat chakra bowl that is the same size as the small frosted bowl
shown. We were also using a smaller clear bowl that is tuned to the root chakra
which we accidentally broke. They are very fragile. We had a customer break
one in a store we had, by letting the sound get too intense. It was a shock to
us all to hear it burst into pieces, but we learned what the threshold of the
bowls are in the process.
These
are the Tibetan Bells and Bowl. The picture is a little dark and you can't see
the detail on the bells, but they are very beautiful. There is a bell one size
smaller, but we don't have one. The bowls come in a variety of sizes as well.
The most common being about half the size of the one here and ranging up to the
size of a dinner plate before getting to the point of becoming gongs that need
to be hung. We met a healer with a very large one that puts it directly on the
abdomen of the person while they are laying on the table. That was really
powerful.
These
are Tingshas they come in sets hooked together. You hit them together and let
them hang as they emit the beautiful sound they make. They come with all kinds
of different patterns engraved on them. They are quite small about 2 1/2 to 3
inches in diameter.
These
are our Medicine Rattles. They are healing rattles that were made for us by a
medicine woman in Washington State. The rattle on the far left is Randy's Bear
rattle. It is a really intense rattle that we use to break energy blockages and
disperse negative energies around someone that we are working on. It is a very
loud rattle as sound goes and it always amazes me that people can stay in a
meditative state when we are using it close to their head. The mental aspect of
self thinks is should jar them out of it, but it never does. The rattle in the
center is Engtovo's bobcat rattle and it's purpose is more ceremonial. It is
used to carry prayers for the person we are working on out into the universe.
It is a very gentle sounding rattle. The rattle on the right is Engtovo's Cat
rattle. It is literally made from domestic cat hide of a cat that was found,
having been killed by a train and brought to the medicine woman. It is a very
interesting rattle. It is used primarily in a circular motion and the sound is
very gentle. The nurturing aspect of cat really comes through. It is used
often to aid in bringing to the surface the particular emotion that is affecting
the person being worked on so that it can be dispersed with the Bear or one of
the Buffalo rattles.
These
are the deer dew claw and deer toe rattles. We use them to move a lot of energy
around in a hurry. They are very good for equalizing the energy around the body
so that it is not all going to one place. Creating a balance of heightened
vibration to allow the emotional, mental and physical bodies to come to a
natural state of integration when they have been out of balance for some time.
They are also great rattle for gatherings, when drumming they help to integrate
the group and spread the energies among the people.
These
are the buffalo rattles They are used in healing and ceremony. Buffalo hide is
very thick and dries much harder than some other hides, which gives the buffalo
rattles a very intense sound and energy.
These
are a couple of hand drums. Both of them are Engtovo's. The smaller cougar
drum is elk hide and makes kind of wha wha sound that is common with elk hide
but rare in deer hides. The Butterfly drum is a deer hide. The recordings of
the drums were done on a rainy day and the cougar drum had no voice at all so we
didn't even try to record it. The place was not a good place to record drums!
When the weather improves we will take the drums outside and get some good
recordings.
These
are the pow wow drums. The grandfather drum is the one used on our tape on the
drum sounds page. I don't know what to say about these drums. When a person
experiences them for the first time it is common for them to say something to
the effect of "oh, now I get it" They have heard about the big drums, but the
experience of them in person, where you can feel the vibration is something I
don't think anyone forgets.
These
are freenotes, created by Richard Cooke. I thought I had a contact address or
phone number on where to get them, but I can't find it, and it has been three
years, and as many moves to different houses. I will try to find some
information in case anyone wants to get a set for themselves. ( I have seen
them recently in a Real Goods catalog.) They come in a variety of
configurations and they can be purchased already made or in kits. They are a
lot of fun, especially for those of us who are not musicians in this life. The
small one is a 8 note G Major Pentatonic Set, and the larger is a 11 note C
Minor Pentatonic Set.
These
are the small India bells, a couple of the Tinkerbells and a couple bone beads
that were uses in the sounds. We rarely use these in a healing session, but do
incorporate them in something we tape for ourselves. In India bells have been
used during hiking in the grizzly bear country here in Montana as well. Many
people use big jingle bells and it get old very fast, but these bells are very
harmonious and it is easy to listen to them for the duration of the hike.
Harmonic Wind Chimes: (not pictured) I didn't want to leave out the info on
these. The one we have used in the sounds on this page are from J.W. Stannard
of Largo Florida. They are all hand tuned and there is a wide variety of
sizes. They also make chimes with strikers that are
